Members of the manufacturing team at Industries of the Blind pose with the first shipment of scrubs on its way out the door to CURE International.
When we created Saf-T-Scrubs™, we decided our product could change the world: A lofty goal, for sure. But we knew there was an opportunity to change the way health care professionals and hospitals use healthcare apparel. We also knew that developing and war-torn countries could benefit immediately from our product. So, we decided our first 100 scrubs directly off the production line would be sent to hospitals in developing countries.
Making a Difference Where it is Most Needed
Beyond that first donation, we are committed to providing more scrubs as they are produced. Because this effort is so important to us, it will not be dependent on the purchase of our products. It’s simply how we have pledged to run our business.
CURE International, an organization focused on providing care to women and children in developing countries has partnered with us and will receive regular donations of scrubs. CURE works in 30 countries around the world including Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, and Philippines, to name a few. Since their first hospital opened in Kenya in 1998, CURE has provided care to thousands of women and treated hundreds of thousands of children with health issues such as clubfoot, cleft lips, hydrocephalus and untreated burns.
CURE International’s hospitals specialize in providing quality care that includes orthopedics, neurosurgery, reconstructive surgery and maternity care. Many of the kids that receive treatment would have died, and thanks to CURE, they have the opportunity to live a fulfilling life.
Helping CURE Help Others
Not only does CURE provide life-saving care to women and children in developing countries, but they also train medical professionals in the local communities. In fact, most of the hospitals function as training programs to empower medical professionals and improve the quality of care. Some of the hospitals are the only facilities providing specialized surgery.
The first shipment of Saf-T-Scrubs™ is on the way to their U.S. office right now. It will then travel to the other side of the world to a CURE hospital in Uganda to outfit their doctors and nurses. Helping such an important cause is just one way we will make a difference. By providing a high-tech product to the caring professionals at CURE International hospitals, we’ll keep them and their patients safe from infection.
